Marcelo Alves Inácio became enchanted by the atmosphere and emotions ignited by an open fire as a young man, while working in a stove and fireplace company in France. Years later, he moved to a small village in Portugal where, in 2008, he set up his own business, GlammFire. GlammFire’s limited-edition collections can be finished to a customer’s preferred specification, and the company also works with clients on entirely bespoke pieces. Its products are available in a wealth of finishes, including wood, leather, glass, stone, steel and gold leaf, and many feature state-of-the-art integrated technology. Designed and crafted in Portugal, they are available directly from GlammFire or via one of the brand’s representatives in over 50 countries, who also advise on local sources of bioethanol, a renewable source of energy. As countries move at varying speeds towards a carbon-neutral future, GlammFire works closely with its representatives to develop products and accessories that remain at the forefront of emerging technology and legislation in each country.
“Bioethanol and electric fires aren’t just better for the environment, they’re better in other ways, too,” says Soraia. They do not create fumes or mess, or need a chimney or ventilation flue, which means they can be situated virtually anywhere in the home. All the heat is retained within the room, and the temperature is adjustable. With electric fires you can even opt to have no heat at all, just a realistic flame effect. Some of the effects can change colours or be enhanced with music or the sound of a crackling fire. “There are so many beautiful and innovative options available to our customers, there’s no reason to compromise – you can have the heart-warming qualities of fire without fuelling global warming.”
