At Le Chalet in the exclusive Austrian mountain village of Oberlech, luxury is about carefully curated private moments, nature and space

When visitors arrive at Le Chalet, a luxury private lodge in Oberlech near Lech am Arlberg in the Austrian Alps, the experience begins with the smell of freshly baked Austrian cakes, prepared on the premises by the personal chef. Guests can then take in the 1,000 square metres of living space or move on to the terrace to enjoy panoramic, unrestricted views of the surrounding mountains – which is where they will spend much of their time over the next few days.

“It’s not just having a holiday, it is creating memories that last for a lifetime,” says Andreas Mathis, Le Chalet’s host and General Manager. “To do that we are entirely focused on the guests. When we first talk to them before they get here, we try to find out what they like to eat, what they want to experience.”

With seven spacious bedrooms, including three suites featuring fireplaces, there is plenty of space for guests to be themselves. “The view is outstanding from every room,” says Andreas. There is also a private spa, complete with swimming pool, sauna, steam bath and infrared cabin. “When we opened in December 2022, the target was to create a place of unconditional wellbeing. That means more time and more space. Everything is slowed down as we take people back to the things that are important, such as nature, comfort and family.”

For Andreas, luxury means delivering special private moments. “Luxury is about individual taste, and we try to be very individual by offering a personal service and always finding something new to discover.” Andreas works alongside Le Chalet’s team to create this personalised experience. Everything is designed to meet individual preferences, whether it is a traditional specialty or an eight-course meal, or wine pairings from Le Chalet’s exquisite wine cellar, curated by a master sommelier. In addition, Andreas personally seeks out special events and locations to recommend to guests, including the best local restaurants. The nearby Alpine village of Lech also provides many highly acclaimed restaurants and luxury shopping opportunities.

Even when skiing, Le Chalet’s guests receive an individualised experience, with a private ski guide introducing them to the best slopes on the Arlberg. Le Chalet is located at the heart of the Arlberg ski resort, which is one of Austria’s most prestigious and renowned ski destinations. As well as offering exceptional skiing, its snow-filled landscape is perfect for romantic and family strolls.

Although winter is the peak season, Oberlech is a superb place to visit in summer for hiking and cycling, and the mountains are equally beautiful in their greenery. There is also an internationally renowned classical music festival at this time of year, one of many high-profile cultural events.

A modern home from home, with its unspoilt natural setting, open views, cosy wood interiors and state-of-the-art technology, Le Chalet strives to be sustainable, using hydro-energy and recycled energy. It is also family friendly, with special meals made for children, and a movie and games room.

“At Le Chalet you can dress up for dinner, or be as casual as you wish,” says Andreas. “You are with your family, so it’s up to you. Le Chalet stands for exceptional experiences. We are known as a luxury home and synonymous with individuality and five-star personal service.”
