On a stretch of white sand, Long Bay Beach Resort in the British Virgin Islands is the epitome of barefoot luxury

A paradise within a paradise, Long Bay Beach Resort is located on the west end of Tortola, the capital island of the British Virgin Islands. Framed by lush palms, it is hidden away on a mile-long stretch of serene white sand – a naturally beautiful environment that captures the quintessential Caribbean experience.

“Our goal at Long Bay Beach Resort is to provide our guests with an experience they will cherish for a lifetime,” say Brian and Shamra Strange, the property’s owners. “We want guests to enjoy a feeling of laidback luxury and take away a sense of rejuvenation and reconnection with themselves and those who are important to them. We provide an escape from the stresses of everyday life and a chance to reconnect with nature.”

Surrounded by nature, the resort exudes an old-world elegance. The main building, a former sugar mill and rum distillery built in 1748 with metre-thick rock walls, houses the 1748 Restaurant, which offers the highest quality fish sourced from local fisherman and organic produce from local farms and the resort’s garden. The Coffee Shop serves organic coffee, fruit smoothies, pastries and herbal remedies, while the new open-air Tiki Bar and Lounge is perfect for sunsets and late nights, with its sweeping ocean views and the island’s finest rum selection.

The resort complements its luxurious rustic charm of natural stone, coral and limestone walls with modern comforts. King-size beds, wi-fi, smart TVs, coffee makers and air conditioning ensure guests can relax (even work, if they have to) in the utmost comfort in their suite – or while enjoying the sound of waves and an ocean view from their private patio.

On the beach, guests can enjoy Caribbean cocktails at Johnny’s Beach Bar – perfect after a surf, sail or swim. New resort additions include a pool with Jacuzzi, a swim-up bar, spa, informal restaurant, boutique, fitness centre and tennis and pickleball courts. Also new are eight private beachfront villas for an extra-special experience.

“Long Bay Beach Resort offers guests an indulgent escape with a wide range of activities and amenities,” say the owners. “Our friendly staff are dedicated to providing the highest level of service, making sure our guests have all they need to make their stay enjoyable.”

There are even plans to sell real estate near the resort, for those for whom a visit just isn’t enough.
