Ermitage, a five-star hotel in Normandy, is the perfect base for visiting France’s must-see sites, such as Mont Saint-Michel, Saint-Malo, the D-Day beaches and Deauville

Mont Saint-Michel is one of the most famous and visited landmarks in France. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it takes the form of an abbey surrounded by a cascade of medieval buildings on a tidal island off the coast of Normandy. Ermitage hotel, a former coaching inn in the village of Beauvoir, is located near Mont Saint-Michel.

With its six suites and one deluxe room, Ermitage is the smallest five-star hotel in Europe. It offers refined French luxury with personalised service in a family atmosphere. Each spacious suite is a minimum of 40 square metres and comes with its own private terrace or balcony, while the decor is cosy and luxurious, creating the perfect space in which to relax.

The hotel’s own gastronomic restaurant, La Table de l’Ermitage, is a major draw for all guests. It serves local delicacies from the region in season, such as oysters from Cancale, Breton blue lobster, scallops and salted meadow lamb. The cellar, meanwhile, boasts an outstanding selection of wines and liqueurs where French Grands Crus rub shoulders with rarer, equally prestigious vintages.

By car or bicycle, there is much to explore in the local area, and the hotel can help guests with activities. Alongside the remarkable abbey at Mont Saint-Michel, sightseeing may include the famous D-Day Landing beaches where there are several museums and monuments dedicated to the soldiers of the Second World War.

There is also the Christian Dior Museum, located in the celebrated French couturier’s former villa across the bay from Mont Saint-Michel, which showcases his exquisite collections. Alternatively, hotel guests can explore myriad coastal routes or take in the beautiful landscape of the Emerald Coast in neighbouring Brittany with its popular port towns, Saint-Malo and Cancale. Nearby is Granville, dubbed the “Monaco of the North”, a walled city of casinos and luxury boutiques, that faces Mont Saint-Michel from atop a rocky promontory overlooking the historic bay. The chic seaside resort of Deauville is another of Normandy’s gems.

Ermitage hotel and restaurant is the ideal base for visiting this beautiful and richly historic corner of the French coast.
