From the ateliers of Paris, Meljac makes luxury light switches of distinction, combining years of innovation, expertise and elegance

“We focus on quality, respect for know-how and customer service,” says Jean-Michel Lagarde, Director of Meljac, a French supplier of high-end light switches, sockets and electrical accessories. “Beyond simply designing functional objects, we aim to create an environment that meets all expectations of luxury – we make personalised products with passion.”

With its output ranging from classic to contemporary collections, to bespoke items, Meljac combines technology with style. Joining the company in 2015, Jean-Michel brought with him his love for art and craftsmanship, having previously worked for fashion houses Nina Ricci, Paco Rabanne and Barbara Bui. But it was Meljac’s founder, the late André Bousquet, who was “always ahead of the curve,” says Jean-Michel. “He took inspiration from 1930s art de vivre [the French penchant for fine living] embodied by the elegant, droplet-shaped toggle switch, to design innovative and attractive products that proved a hit with many architects, interior designers and private customers.” In a nod to his origins, André named the firm after his home town in southern France, having headed to Paris in 1995 as an electrician before spotting a gap in the market.

The company went on to set up a US subsidiary in 2018 and has received many accolades that reflect the history, evolution and quality of the French brand. It holds the prestigious Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label, and its products are certified as Origine France Garantie (Guaranteed French Origin). In 2018, it won the PME Bougeons-nous “Made in France” Trophy, for its designs made in the workshops of the Paris region, in proximity to its clients. Moreover, Meljac has been recognised for its innovation – a key driver of the company’s development – through designs such as the Solaris Collection. Produced in collaboration with the influential designer Marc Newson in 2021, Solaris has received the Red Dot Award, among others.

“In addition to all these amazing distinctions,” says Jean-Michel, “we are proud to have developed products for prestigious buildings, including the Palace of Versailles and the Louvre Museum. The requests that Meljac receives from top interior designers to equip standard or luxury hotels and yachts throughout the world, and the expertise it shares with major luxury goods companies and international stars, are a further source of pride.”
