Steeped in British sporting heritage, Wentworth Club offers members three wonderful and differing courses and exclusive facilities

“I feel it just as strongly today. Put simply, Wentworth is in a class of its own,” says Wentworth Club ambassador and world-famous golfer Gary Player, winner of 18 golfing majors across his impressive career.

Set in a serene 700-hectare estate in Surrey, just 20 minutes from London Heathrow, Wentworth Club plays a proud role in the history of golf. In 1805, “Wentworths” was a private residence for the extended family of the Duke of Wellington, but, in 1922, visionary developer Walter George Tarrant established the estate as the home of Wentworth Club. One hundred years later, it is home to the prestigious BMW PGA Championship, played here each September, but is also an exclusive home to another family – the members.

Since the first shot was played at the precursor to the Ryder Cup in 1926, when Samuel Ryder invited a team from the US, captained by Walter Hagen, to play against a British team, Wentworth’s courses have hosted some of the world’s biggest events, including the Daks Tournament, British Masters, Women’s British Open, the Canada Cup and the World Match Play.

Wentworth enjoys three world-class golf courses, each painstakingly maintained and benefitting from state-of- the-art innovation, such as SubAir technology, to control moisture levels regardless of weather conditions – keeping greens firm and fast. It also boasts an exceptional 1920s-style Clubhouse, with the renowned Burma Bar and dining rooms, along with a Tennis & Health Club, which features a spa, swimming pool and magnificent tennis and padel courts.

The 100th anniversary of the formation of the Wentworth Estate and the conceptualisation of Wentworth Club ensured that 2022 was a special year for Wentworth, and the anniversaries heralded a multitude of centenary celebrations across the club. As Wentworth honours its distinguished heritage, it also importantly creates a future legacy, through its ownership, Reignwood Group, with the creation of its Centenary Commitments driving wellness, sustainability and youth development across the brand.

The result is a club that is steeped in history and prestige, but also has bold and ambitious plans for the future. As a spokesperson says, “With its world-class facilities, exceptional service and unmatched heritage, membership at Wentworth Club is truly special.”
