Carthago’s motorhomes are the product of more than four decades of experience, with technology inspired by the world of aviation

When Karl-Heinz Schuler entered the world of work in 1979, he knew he wanted to start a business of his own. Walking the streets he saw a converted van and thought, “That could be done better”. Carthago Reisemobilbau was founded on that principle, and it is the approach that continues to drive the company as one of the leading manufacturers of premium A-class and coachbuilt motorhomes in Europe.

“Our core expertise is motorhomes in the premium class,” says CEO Markus Kern. “More than 40 years of experience flow into every stage of development and manufacturing. We still think that only the best is good enough when it comes to our customers’ comfort and safety. We deliver innovative thinking, an eye for detail and high-tech solutions to ensure each Carthago motorhome is something special – a synonym for exclusivity and quality.”

Using techniques taken from aviation technology, Carthago’s designers and engineers ensure each motorhome offers a high degree of durability, safety and comfort. The vehicles are driven all over the world and are adaptable for any type of holiday, from exploring mountains to visiting beaches. This flexibility is supported by superb facilities including storage space. “At Carthago, we attach great importance to storage space,” says Markus. “Each model offers a maximum of storage for its respective size, so that it can travel for several weeks or even months at a time.”

Carthago produces several models from factories in Germany and Slovenia. The models are offered on three different chassis variants: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Fiat and Iveco. The Carthago liner-for-two, for example, is available on Fiat and Iveco and sets new standards with its generous lounge, extra-wide kitchen, luxury bathroom and underfloor heating. For those seeking to explore the most remote corners of the world, there is the super-lightweight Carthago c-compactline, with a narrower exterior.

“Our main goal is to continue to grow,” says Markus. “Another goal is internationalisation. Every second motorhome we build is sold in foreign countries, so we need to think and act internationally. However, the most important goal is to build the best motorhome in its class, so that customers continue to trust the Carthago brand.”
