Under the blue sky of Crete, the philosophy of bluegr Hotels & Resorts celebrates authenticity, cultural heritage, impeccable design and pure hospitality
Inspired architecture, a passion for design, a love of nature: these qualities ensure bluegr guests receive an unforgettable experience. bluegr Hotels & Resorts has three properties in Crete, each of which is built with respect for the natural surroundings, honouring sustainability and luxury, and allowing the sounds and senses of nature to take over. “We aim to provide authentic, unique experiences,” says CEO Gina Mamidaki, “and to honour the increased desire for solo travelling by people who seek tranquillity, personal growth and introspection.”
Right on the water’s edge is Minos Beach art hotel. Secluded human-scale bungalows and villas with private pools are scattered along a two-kilometre coastline. There’s great food and wine, and the unique Sculpture Garden, featuring more than 50 contemporary sculptural installations on permanent display – many created for the location.
“In 1988, we organised the first Art Symposium at Minos Beach art hotel,” says Gina. “The site-specific sculptural installations set the foundations for what is today an emblematic art collection comprising more than 70 artworks in three locations.” The G&A Mamidakis Foundation supports contemporary art and culture through an annual Art Prize and Residency Programme, the theme of which is Care.
The nearby Minos Palace hotel & suites is an adult-only five-star hotel perched on a private peninsula with 360° views. A garden with 1,000 local herbs creates an unforgettable sensory experience, while suites – some with private pools – offer views of the sunrise or sunset. The focus here is wellbeing – delivering peace, balance and space for reflection. An innovative new element, launching in 2025, is set to take this experience further, creating a holistic transformative journey.
A little further out is Candia Park village, a family-orientated destination with an authentic Cretan village feel and colourful streets leading to a central square with a tower clock. Children can enjoy activities from magic shows to movie nights in the square, while workshops, water sports, excursions, kids’ menus and unlimited ice cream ensure every member of the family has an unforgettable break. “We invest equal emphasis on each guest’s entire journey,” says Gina. “That begins long before they arrive and its effects are carried far beyond each visit. In simple terms, bluegr stays true to the true values of hospitality.”
